It has been a couple weeks since my last email. I hope this update finds you doing very well. Things have been very busy since my last email. Time has been spent on feed price meetings, farm projects, budgeting, and a few other miscellaneous things. One thing that makes it extremely difficult to run a project like this is to not have a vehicle available to you. On my last update I wrote a update about an amazing project that is going to save a farm that isn't self-sufficient. Here are some of the updates from the last couple weeks. We have disinfected the entire chicken shed, painted the racks for the laying baskets, slashed and hoed the 5 feet tall grass around the entire shed, purchased and picked up several bags of sawdust for the birds, looked into buying some amazing roosters to fertilize our hens eggs, met with different feed operations about buying 3 tons of feed upfront from a mill, worked hours on budgeting so that the project will be fully completed with our resources, done some marketing visits on selling our broiler chickens when they're ready, and of course killed a couple of my bosses older roosters to have a little feast in between the busy work days. Just today as soon as I finish this email I have a meeting with the manager of a feed mill that is 10 miles away from here. We are negotiating discount prices on the chicken feed. I hope either today or tomorrow they're business, Arrowfeeds, will be our provider of 3 tons of 4 different feed mixtures. Tomorrow morning is the day the chickens arrive. They were supposed to come last Tuesday, but got postponed for a week. I called them specially today to make sure those hens will be ready tomorrow. It's a go!
As for support collected. 1 of my teammates raised $200 American dollars for the project, and another gave $60. The total cost is going to be approximately $2200. The main 2 costs of the project are the feed for 6 months ($1370), and the 150 egg incubator ($440). The other remaining cost are paint, laying baskets, sawdust, ant killer, miscellaneous fuel cost, lumber, hardware, and other miscellaneous supplies. If support raising goes well for this project we could expand it just a little bit. We still want to buy the rooster for about $50 (for 3 of them), and need to look into chick vaccination. So the last 2 weeks have been real busy. We are excited for the birds to come tomorrow. The Lord has assured me that he will provide money for this project. This project will have amazing benefits. First off there will be more than enough eggs to feed all the orphans that live on the farm (about 40 total kids), it will provide a steady income for farm inputs and seedlings, we won't have to buy fertilizer due to the steady amount of chicken maneur that will be collected, and the project will bring life to our farm. Everyone that works in our in town office, our neighbors, and the kids that live at the farm are all excited about the project. I encourage you to be praying on whether or not you'd like to support this project. If you would shoot me an email back.
Ministry has been amazing. The orphan kids are out of school for 3 weeks (they have a trimester), so every day after work I get to minister to these kids. I had not yet had that opportunity. I eat with them most days, and they even help me with the project. I love the extra help and time to spend with them. I have been talking a lot with Sanele this week about some new issues. His faith is growing to new limits. I love it here. I am having a difficult time thinking that I'll be home in only a month. I'm excited God has made provision for us to work on this project and spend extra time with these kids. Some of the inputs we've been asking for at the farm came this week. Fertilizer and insecticide. It turns out God is providing the farm's needs. Know that I miss you all. Email me back. Some feedback would be nice. My brothers from Nabor House! Keep fighting the good fight...I'll be seeing you boys soon. Love you all,
Your Brother in Christ,
Melusi
